Tokenized Stocks on Hedera: HashPack’s May Chan and SODAX’s Jennifer Kim Explain How Robinhood Stock Tokens Reach 1M+ Wallets

HashPack CEO May Chan and SODAX's Jennifer Kim explain how tokenized stocks on Hedera work, from one-to-one minting to $2 billion in unified liquidity.

Tokenized stocks on Hedera are now live inside HashPack, the network’s leading wallet. Users can swap into tokenized Apple, Nvidia and Tesla, along with an S&P 500 ETF. SODAX powers the integration by routing trades across networks. In an interview with Genfinity, HashPack co-founder and CEO May Chan and SODAX head of business development Jennifer Kim explained how the launch came together. They also described the mechanics behind it and the roadmap they see ahead.

A Five-Year Relationship Turns Into a Product

The partnership started long before SODAX had a product to ship. Kim recalled meeting Chan roughly five years ago, when HashPack was just starting out. She introduced Chan to a major Web3 venture investor, and Chan pitched Hedera with full conviction. Kim expected a losing battle, yet she saw a leader worth keeping in the ecosystem. Years later, Kim left the Hedera Foundation and joined SODAX, then called Chan with news about tokenized stocks. Chan said the conversation began early, before SODAX had even formally launched. Additionally, Kim’s steady outreach and the technical documentation she supplied gave Chan the push to commit her team. As a result, HashPack went live in time to avoid a gap between the assets arriving on the network and users reaching them in the wallet.

How a Robinhood Stock Token Becomes a Hedera Token

Kim walked through the mechanics, and the design relies on a lock-and-mint model. The tokenized Robinhood stocks originate on Robinhood’s own chain, where a smart contract holds the original tokens. When a user swaps, SODAX mints a new ERC-20 token on Hedera. It uses the Hedera Consensus Service to carry the message across. The new token becomes a native Hedera asset, and it represents the Robinhood stock one for one. Importantly, Kim said redemption is coming soon, so holders will be able to convert their Hedera token back into the Robinhood version. SODAX applies the same pattern across the 21 networks it supports today. Meanwhile, it plans to add five more, including XRP, Tron, TON, Monad and Zcash.

Why Access to Liquidity Matters More Than Its Location

Liquidity became the second major theme of the conversation. Kim said builders on Hedera spent much of this year struggling to source liquidity for their DeFi products. SODAX answers that problem by unifying liquidity across its connected networks, which she put at about $2 billion available to builders. Consequently, a team can plug into that pool and focus on code, security and user experience. Chan framed the shift in broader terms. Early crypto markets required liquidity to sit on the specific chain a user worked in. In contrast, she argued, the industry now wants to reach liquidity wherever it lives. She pointed to Hashgraph’s CLPR cross-ledger work as another sign that the network is moving in the same direction. Siloed markets worked while the space was young, but they no longer fit where finance is heading.

What Changes Inside the Wallet

For users, the stocks behave like any other asset in HashPack. Chan said most of the wallet’s users already work from their phones. Accordingly, the latest update focused on a mobile-native design and a customizable portfolio view. A trader who mostly holds tokens or stocks can put those first, while an NFT collector can keep collectibles at the top. Users can swap the stocks, check balances and track positions without leaving the app. Chan called the launch a first step, and she expects more assets and more portfolio tools to follow. She also named a long-term ambition. Chan pointed to Wealthsimple, a popular Canadian trading app, and said HashPack could compete for that role if tokenized stocks reach the mainstream. Holders should still remember that Robinhood’s stock tokens give economic exposure, not direct shareholder rights.

Hedera’s Enterprise Groundwork Meets Retail Demand

Chan described Hedera as the adult in the room, an enterprise-focused chain that arrived before enterprises and regulators were ready. She said HashPack wanted to build a retail ecosystem then, but the network lacked the technical and organizational foundation. That has changed as regulators catch up, markets mature and financial institutions look at crypto as a real solution. In her view, tokenized stocks mark the start of an inflection point. Assets that traditional finance treats as ordinary now arrive in a digital-native form. Furthermore, she said enterprises building on Hedera today may not issue tokens yet. However, they would find Hedera the natural choice if they later decide to tokenize assets. She also expects the flow to run in both directions. Other chains will gain access to assets tokenized on Hedera, just as Hedera users now reach assets from Robinhood’s chain.

What Comes Next for SODAX and HashPack

Both executives pointed to the same priorities: more assets, more partners and more utility. Kim said SODAX’s CEO actively searches for unique real-world assets that no other platform offers. She wants to bring those to the networks where gaps exist. Her larger goal involves connecting partners to one another, so projects across ecosystems can fill each other’s needs. She cited a bank in Australia that hosts a monthly call for its partners as a model. Chan said she is watching what SODAX adds next, especially ways to do more with tokenized stocks after buying them. Additionally, she invited the community to request assets and wallet features directly. HashPack, she said, builds what its users ask for.
