Coinbase now surfaces brand-new tokens the moment they appear onchain. The company rolled out its “New Launches” tab on June 16, 2026. This feature lets users discover and trade freshly minted Base and Solana tokens instantly. Previously, reaching these assets meant leaving Coinbase for a separate DEX. Now the entire flow lives inside the main Coinbase app.
We’re taking the Coinbase DEX experience to the next level.

What the Launches Tab Actually Does
The Launches tab targets a specific gap in Coinbase’s product. Historically, only vetted tokens reached the app after a formal review process. As a result, users missed the earliest window on new onchain assets. The Launches tab removes that delay entirely. It shows tokens on Base and Solana as soon as they go live.
Coinbase built the feature on automated indexing. Its infrastructure detects new onchain assets without any setup from token issuers. Consequently, a token can surface in the app minutes after creation. Users then trade it directly, without bridging funds or connecting an external wallet. The experience looks like normal Coinbase trading, even though execution happens onchain.
The Rails: Jupiter and Base
Two pieces of infrastructure power the Launches tab. First, Base handles the Ethereum side of the equation. Base is Coinbase’s own Layer 2 network, launched in 2023 on Optimism’s OP Stack. Therefore, Coinbase controls that ecosystem end to end. That vertical integration makes fast Base token discovery straightforward.
Solana runs through a different route. Coinbase integrated Jupiter, the largest DEX aggregator in the Solana ecosystem, directly into the app. Jupiter routes each trade across multiple liquidity sources to find the best price. Meanwhile, Coinbase manages the wallet flow and user interface. This split lets Coinbase offer onchain execution while keeping a familiar retail experience.
Part of the “Everything Exchange” Push
The Launches tab did not arrive in isolation. It extends a broader strategy Coinbase detailed in its December 2025 system update. During that event, the company introduced Solana DEX trading, commission-free stock trading, and prediction markets through Kalshi. Coinbase frames all of it as building an “everything exchange.” The goal is combining crypto, equities, derivatives, and onchain assets in one app.
Instant token trading fits that vision cleanly. Coinbase reaches more than 100 million users worldwide. Now those users can access millions of Base and Solana assets by default. Additionally, Coinbase says it plans to expand DEX integration to more networks over time. That roadmap positions the app as a single hub for onchain discovery.
The Safety Tradeoff
Speed introduces real risk, and Coinbase acknowledges it directly. The company runs new tokens through third-party filters before display. These filters screen for obviously malicious contracts. However, automated screening cannot catch every threat. Rug pulls, low-liquidity traps, and manipulated supply mechanics often slip past such tools.
Coinbase labels these tokens clearly as unvetted assets. That designation separates them from curated listings that pass its standard review. In effect, the company shifts due diligence onto the user. Traders should therefore treat Launches tab tokens with caution. Reviewing liquidity, contract details, and holder distribution remains essential before any purchase.
Fees add another consideration. DEX transactions carry costs from both Coinbase and the underlying networks. Notably, Coinbase One subscribers may see some of those fees waived. Regular users should still check the total cost before confirming a swap.
Why It Matters
The Launches tab pulls a fast-moving corner of crypto into a mainstream app. Until now, instant token trading lived mostly on platforms like Pump.fun and Moonshot. Those tools built large audiences around launching and trading tokens immediately. Coinbase now competes on that same speed, but with wider reach and a compliance layer.
For readers, the shift signals a clear direction. Large exchanges increasingly route retail activity through decentralized infrastructure on the backend. Coinbase makes onchain trading feel centralized while the execution stays permissionless. As a result, the line between centralized exchanges and DeFi keeps blurring. That trend will likely shape how millions of users first touch onchain markets.
