Discover Network Joins MoonPay: Giving Direct Access to BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, HYPE, and Thousands of Other Tokens

Discover Network partnered with MoonPay so US cardholders can buy BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, HYPE, and thousands of other crypto tokens through MoonPay's onramp.

Discover Network partnered with MoonPay to bring crypto purchasing to US cardholders. The integration lets Discover holders buy thousands of supported tokens through MoonPay’s onramp. Supported assets include BTC, ETH, BNB, XRP, SOL, TRX, HYPE, and ZEC. Additionally, the deal expands MoonPay’s card network reach into a third major US payment rail. Notably, Visa and Mastercard already run MoonPay integrations, so Discover fills the last gap.

What Discover Holders Can Now Buy

Discover cardholders in the US gain direct access to MoonPay’s asset catalog. The catalog covers over 100 tokens across major Layer-1 ecosystems and beyond. Buyers can now purchase Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and BNB with their Discover cards. Additionally, they can access newer assets like Hyperliquid’s HYPE token and privacy coin Zcash. Meanwhile, MoonPay handles compliance, identity verification, and settlement in the background. As a result, cardholders complete purchases without leaving a familiar checkout flow. This mirrors how MoonPay already routes Visa and Mastercard transactions across 180 countries.

Why the Deal Matters for Discover

Discover has lagged Visa and Mastercard in crypto onramp coverage for years. Meanwhile, both networks moved aggressively into stablecoin and card-to-crypto rails throughout 2025. Notably, Mastercard’s May 2025 deal with MoonPay covers stablecoin spending at 150 million merchants. In contrast, Discover cardholders often had to switch rails to buy crypto. However, this integration closes that gap for millions of US Discover accounts. Additionally, the timing lands during Capital One’s ongoing acquisition of Discover Financial. Consequently, Discover Global Network gains a crypto-native product to sell against Visa and Mastercard.

MoonPay’s Card Network Play

MoonPay now runs onramps across all three major US card networks. The company serves more than 30 million users spread across 180 countries. Additionally, MoonPay works with over 6,000 merchants through its payment network. Meanwhile, the firm expanded aggressively into stablecoin payments over the past year. Notably, MoonPay Trade launched in June 2026 to serve institutional flow across 200+ chains. In parallel, MoonPay’s headless onramp product powers checkout inside Trust Wallet, Bitcoin.com, and ChatGPT. Consequently, adding Discover locks in a broader base for the retail side of the business.

The Broader Card Onramp Race

Card networks now compete directly on crypto onramp coverage. Visa and Mastercard both offer stablecoin settlement and card-to-crypto flows through infrastructure partners. Meanwhile, Discover previously lacked a comparable direct integration with a global crypto payments provider. However, this MoonPay deal moves Discover into the same conversation. Additionally, retail investors care less about which network processes their crypto buy. In practice, they care about supported tokens, fees, and checkout speed. As a result, network parity on crypto access has become table stakes for issuers.

What Comes Next

The rollout expands US retail access to crypto through familiar rails. Cardholders can now buy assets like SOL, XRP, and HYPE without a separate exchange account. Additionally, the deal signals Discover’s willingness to move faster on digital asset rails. Meanwhile, MoonPay continues stacking integrations across networks, wallets, and consumer applications. Notably, the company recently launched MoonAgents Card to route stablecoin spend through AI agents. Looking ahead, expect Discover to extend the framework beyond simple asset purchases. In parallel, expect other US card issuers to follow with similar MoonPay-style deals.
