Solana Just Powered One of the Biggest Upgrades in X’s History

X's new Cashtags feature brings real-time financial data to the timeline, and Solana's infrastructure is what makes it work. Helius, Birdeye Data Services, and Dialect are the three projects behind it.

X launched Cashtags for iPhone users powered by Solana in the United States and Canada. The feature turns ticker symbols into interactive financial widgets that live directly inside the timeline. When a user types or taps a cashtag like $SOL or $BTC, X automatically suggests the matching asset. Tapping it opens a live price chart and a feed of posts tied to that exact token or stock. No app-switching, no third-party tools.

The feature also accepts Solana contract addresses directly. This is a significant improvement for on-chain assets, where dozens of tokens can share a ticker symbol. By linking to a verified contract address, X connects users to the exact token they mean. Nikita Bier, X’s Head of Product, was direct about the ambition. “Cashtags are just the first step in our commitment to be the best destination for the finance and crypto community,” Bier wrote.

X has long been where financial conversation happens. Billions of dollars of allocation decisions flow through the timeline every day. Cashtags closes the gap between that conversation and the actual data. For the Solana ecosystem specifically, it means every Solana token now has a live presence on the world’s largest financial social network.

Solana Is the Infrastructure Behind It

Solana’s official account put it plainly when Cashtags launched: “X Cashtags are here. Powered by Solana.” That statement reflects a concrete technical reality, not just marketing. Three Solana-native projects built the infrastructure that makes this feature work: Helius, Birdeye Data Services, and Dialect.

Each handles a distinct layer. Helius provides the RPC infrastructure that connects X to the Solana blockchain. Birdeye Data Services powers the historical token data behind every price chart. Dialect provides the Actions and Blinks layer that enables on-chain transactions from inside the feed. Together, they form a complete Solana stack embedded inside one of the most-used apps on the internet.

Nikita Bier also serves as an advisor to Solana Labs, which aligns closely with the decision to build on Solana. His visibility into both organizations accelerated what might otherwise have taken years of partnership building. The result is a Solana-native financial layer embedded at the core of X’s financial product roadmap.

Helius Connects X to the Solana Blockchain

Helius is Solana’s leading RPC and API infrastructure provider. The platform processes over 250 million RPC requests per day across a globally distributed network. It maintains sub-100ms global latency with 99.99% uptime across nodes in 11 regions worldwide. Helius already serves major Solana applications including Phantom, Jupiter, Coinbase, and Bitwise, making it the backbone of Solana’s most-used products.

For X Cashtags to read Solana contract addresses and surface the right token data, the platform needs a fast, reliable connection to Solana’s state. Helius provides this through LaserStream, its gRPC data feed that streams real-time transaction and account updates with minimal delay. Standard web infrastructure cannot handle this at social-platform scale. Helius is the plumbing that makes the connection work.

Adding X to Helius’s client list is a notable step for Solana. It means the same RPC infrastructure that powers the ecosystem’s leading wallets and DEXes now also powers Cashtags for hundreds of millions of X users.

Birdeye Data Services Powers the Historical Token Data

Birdeye Data Services (BDS) is a high-performance on-chain data provider built on Solana. The platform aggregates trading data from over 200 DEXes and AMMs across Solana and major EVM chains. It offers more than 50 APIs and 10 WebSocket types covering token prices, charts, trades, wallet PnL, and protocol-level data. BDS already powers teams including Phantom, Raydium, Coinbase, and Bybit.

For X Cashtags, BDS specifically powers the historical Solana token data that populates the price charts. When a user taps a Solana token cashtag and sees a chart spanning one day to one year, that data comes from Birdeye Data Services. This requires aggregating and normalizing on-chain trading activity across hundreds of liquidity sources over time. BDS has built exactly this infrastructure.

The depth of coverage matters for accuracy. A meme coin with low liquidity spread across multiple DEXes still needs a clean, accurate price history for the chart to be useful. BDS handles that complexity, so the data X surfaces is reliable regardless of which Solana token a user looks up.

Dialect Powers On-Chain Actions from the Timeline

Dialect is the team behind Solana Actions and Blinks, the technology that enables on-chain transactions from inside X. Solana Actions are APIs that return transactions for users to preview and sign. Blinks, short for Blockchain Links, wrap those Actions into shareable URLs that any platform can render. Together, they let a user execute a Solana transaction without ever leaving the app they are already in.

This changes the mechanics of how people interact with on-chain assets. Previously, a user who wanted to swap a Solana token had to open a DEX, connect their wallet, navigate to the right pair, and confirm the transaction. Blinks collapse all of that. A cashtag on X can now surface a pre-filled transaction screen directly in the feed. The user stays in the conversation. Dialect built and maintains the public registry of verified Blinks, in partnership with the Solana Foundation, to ensure these links point to legitimate on-chain actions.

Helius, BDS, and Dialect each handle a distinct part of the Solana stack. Helius handles the connection to the chain. BDS handles the historical market data. Dialect handles the write layer, letting users take on-chain action without leaving X. No other blockchain has this kind of end-to-end presence built into a product at X’s scale.

Wealthsimple Brings Trading to the Timeline

X also announced a pilot trading integration with Wealthsimple, one of Canada’s largest retail brokerages. Canadian iPhone users who tap a cashtag will see a button that routes them directly to a pre-filled trade screen on Wealthsimple. The flow is designed to move a user from reading about an asset to executing a trade in a single tap. This is X’s first direct brokerage integration.

Wealthsimple serves millions of Canadian users across stocks, ETFs, and crypto. The integration gives those users a path from social conversation to trade execution without friction. Bier confirmed the pilot on launch day: “Today we’re also announcing a pilot integration with Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading brokerage. Users in Canada will see a button on Cashtags so they can trade seamlessly from X.” An equivalent US integration has not yet been announced.

What This Means for Solana’s Ecosystem

Solana’s ecosystem has been building toward this kind of mainstream integration for years. Helius scaled RPC infrastructure to handle production load for the biggest apps on Solana. Birdeye Data Services aggregated on-chain market data from hundreds of sources to make it instantly queryable. Dialect built Actions and Blinks to make on-chain interactions work anywhere on the internet. X is now the biggest platform where all of that work is on display at once.

X Money, the platform’s payments product, is also launching in April 2026. Cashtags is the data and discovery layer that sits in front of it. Together, they position X as a destination not just for financial conversation but for financial action. Solana, through Helius, Birdeye Data Services, and Dialect, is the infrastructure underneath both products.

The scale of this matters. X has hundreds of millions of active users. No DeFi interface, no crypto wallet, no Web3 app comes close to that reach. By powering Cashtags, Solana’s ecosystem just put itself in front of an audience that dwarfs anything the crypto industry has previously accessed. For Solana tokens, the implications are direct. Every token with a contract address now has a live, discoverable presence on the world’s most active financial social platform.
