Unlocking the Future: 2024 ICP Community Conference

Join us at the 2024 ICP Community Conference for a global Web3 event celebrating the third mainnet launch anniversary of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP). Explore cutting-edge technology, win prizes, network with influencers, and delve into the evolving Web3 space—all while experiencing the transformative power of decentralization.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to speak with Isaac Valadez, the Venture Lead at Code and State, a venture protocol operating on the ICP network. We were intrigued to learn more about how the ICP protocol can draw and accommodate numerous Web3 projects. Are you interested in learning about the ICP protocol and the upcoming ICP Community Conference featuring airdrops you won’t want to miss? Continue reading for further details!

Code & State

Code & State functions as a venture studio leveraging the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), offering funding to sustain a project’s operations for 1-2 years. Alongside financial assistance, the studio delivers extensive support in legal affairs, marketing strategies, and design, enabling founders to focus exclusively on attaining product-market fit. Through the organization of community events and the initiation of various projects, Code & State cultivates an ecosystem involving builders, marketers, and enthusiasts in the burgeoning Web3 sector, positioned to transform the global landscape.

Internet Computer Protocol

Web3 services and corporate systems have the capability to be constructed directly on the Internet Computer Protocol, a public decentralized network with scalable infrastructure. This platform enables the hosting of various applications. Some of these applications include social networks and media streaming, providing Web3 functionalities, ensuring tamper-proof operations, and facilitating trustless interactions with external entities.

How does ICP work?

The Internet Computer offers a tamper proof environment where canister software operates securely without the need for traditional protections like firewalls, ensuring immunity to ransomware due to its foundation in advanced mathematics without backdoors. Canisters can be configured as unmodifiable entities or placed under autonomous governance, enabling communities or enterprises to run Web3 services securely and efficiently.

By simplifying development and maintenance processes, canister software significantly reduces costs associated with IT personnel, accelerating time-to-market for online systems and services. Building on the network grants true sovereignty compared to centralized traditional IT infrastructure, which may have vulnerabilities like kill switches and backdoors. Canisters also support advanced tokenization models and enable the creation of “open Internet services” managed exclusively by their communities, while upcoming support for Web3 “AI compute units” on the Internet Computer will further enhance native Web3 integrations and trustless combinations of AI models and data.

The Decentralized Cloud facilitated by ICP aims to emulate services like AWS but without centralized control, envisioning a future where Web3 applications seamlessly mimic familiar Web2 experiences. With ICP, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) gain unprecedented control over deployed dapps’ source code, enabling intricate online services that can only be updated via public proposals accepted by users. Additionally, ICP’s smart contracts possess the capability to execute transactions across various blockchains autonomously, acting as decentralized autonomous actors without relying on centralized services or human access to secret keys.

SNS DAO

An SNS, or Service Nervous System, represents a powerful form of DAO within the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem, enabling communities to govern smart contracts and decentralized apps entirely on-chain. Resembling the design of the Network Nervous System (NNS) that governs the entire ICP, an SNS DAO operates through on-chain proposals submitted and voted on by SNS token holders, ensuring decentralized control over dApps without reliance on a single developer or group. This unique feature allows for multiple SNSs on ICP, with developers able to transfer control of their dApps to an SNS DAO, empowering DAO token holders with governance rights over the dApp’s various aspects.

SNS DAOs offer distinct advantages within the Web3 landscape by facilitating robust community engagement, accelerating user adoption, and providing decentralized funding mechanisms through community-driven decentralization swaps. Notably, SNS DAOs enable true decentralization by executing all decisions on the blockchain, unlike existing DAOs on other blockchains where voting occurs on-chain but execution often happens off-chain.

The ICP community has shown significant interest in SNS technology, with OpenChat being the pioneering dApp to transition control to an SNS DAO in Q1 of 2023. This was followed by numerous ecosystem projects, resulting in the current presence of 11 SNS DAOs on the Internet Computer.

“There’s no ICP maximalism —  you can be an Ethereum maxi, a Bitcoin maxi — whatever you love, ICP has something to offer.” – Isaac Valadez

ICP Community Conference

The 2024 ICP Community Conference (ICPCC) is a global Web3 event marking the third mainnet launch anniversary of the Internet Computer Protocol. The event is taking place online on May 10, 2024, from 12 pm to 9 pm CDT. You can expect nine hours of engaging content, including keynote presentations simplifying ICP’s latest technology.

You can also anticipate opportunities to win NFTs, tokens, and merchandise through Web3 contests, along with networking with ICP influencers and investors both virtually and at local meetups, and insights from top ICP content creators such as Blockchain Boy, Aaron Bremser, William Laurent, and others. Isaac anticipates that multiple projects will distribute different tokens throughout the day, likening the event to a “Black Friday” for the entire ecosystem.

Additionally, attendees can explore opportunities in the rapidly evolving Web3 space, from token sales to capital raising, while celebrating the global reach of the event through ICPCC meetups held worldwide. Admission to the conference is free, offering both experienced Web3 enthusiasts and newcomers a valuable and inclusive learning experience. It’s an excellent chance to gain insights into Web3 developments, network, and receive complimentary items.

Beyond the event

Isaac elaborated on why ICP is so important to Web3. He explained that The Internet Computer aims to address the omnipotent admin issue prevalent in traditional online applications and websites, where a single individual or entity holds absolute control over user data and functionality, capable of arbitrarily manipulating or censoring users. This concept underscores the significance of everyday services like email, for example, where the actions of this “god-like” admin could potentially impact users’ livelihoods.

By decentralizing control and ensuring transparency through the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), users gain greater autonomy and security, as no single entity possesses unchecked power. This simplified explanation resonates with individuals regardless of their technical proficiency, highlighting the transformative potential of Web3 technologies in creating a fairer and more equitable internet experience for all users.
